D.J., who had hung her head over the side of the bed as she tried to discover the whereabouts of her underwear in the semidarkness, went still at the mention of her marriage. She sat up with a jerk. The bed creaked in protest. She scowled at Josie. "What do you know about my marriage?"
"I know everything about you, dear. You married Richard Halloran because you were intent upon pleasing your father. Since Rich seemed unemotional you believed the two of you would make a good match. Rich acted cold, but he also had a whole lot of anger inside, just like you do. You can't be as emotionless as you pretend with all that fire bottled up inside."
D.J. held up her hand. "I don't want to rehash my marriage with you. It's over."
"The marriage might be over, but the scars you received from the experience are still there. You still have no idea what the difference is between having sex and making love."
"There is no difference. Making love is just a fancy name for sex. One I prefer to avoid."
